Note:
You will be riding on an abandoned railbed; expect
a wide range of surface conditions, from hard packed
gravel to loose, unconsolidated railway ballast.
This trail is generally unsuitable for street bikes,
and will require a bike with wider tires for soft

Grand
Forks is located just north of the Canada/US border in the
heart of Boundary Country. The city is 522 km east of Vancouver
on Highway 3.
Many residents
of Grand Forks trace their origins to the Doukhobor religious
sect, who emigrated from Russia at the end of the 19th century.
Some of the red brick buildings built by the Doukobors in
the early 1900s are still found throughout the farmlands of
west Grand Forks.
In the
early 1900s, Grand Forks became the mining and smelting centre
of BC.
Agriculture also contributed to the economy with Grand Forks
producing approximately one-third of apple crops in BC, and
the area is known for growing 19 different varieties of potatoes.
Today, forestry is the main industry with agriculture, mining
and tourism diversifying the economy.
There
are plenty of recreation opportunities in Grand Forks including
biking, hiking, fishing, hunting, golfing, downhill skiing,
cross-country skiing, camping and water sports.

Camping:
There
are also camping opportunities offered by BC's Ministry of
Forests Recreation Program. The ministry's recreation sites
are rustic and usually small (less than 10 vehicle units).
They are located near lakes and rivers, blending in with the
natural surroundings. Although these sites do not offer sophisticated
amenities, such as power hook-ups and piped water, they include
basic sanitary facilities, fire rings, picnic tables, and
where appropriate, boat launch ramps. Some information about
forest recreation sites is available on-line at http://www.tsa.gov.bc.ca/sites_trails/.
As well, you can contact the Ministry of Forests Boundary
District Office in Grand Forks at (250) 442-5411 for more
details.

www.camping.bc.ca (produced
by the BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association) for more camping
information.
